Fatal Police Shooting In Ferguson

Statement

Date: Aug. 10, 2014

Yesterday, August 9th, a young man was tragically gunned down by Ferguson Police officers. This story joins the ranks of many others that are sadly becoming more and more frequent in our country. Police departments all over the nation are acting with increasing amounts of coercion, violence, and force. Actions such as these must be investigated by external agencies and any officers found guilty of misuse of power must be dealt with by the exact same standards we would use for any other citizen. We trust our police officers to use their positions of authority with discretion, prudence, and common sense. When they abuse this public trust, it not only hurts those directly involved in the incident, it also hurts all of society by eroding that trust. I hope that the Ferguson Police Department will take a look at this incident and realize that not only have they ended a young man's life, but they have irreparably damaged their ability to do their jobs in the future. My thoughts go out to the family of Michael Brown during this incredibly difficult time.
